Comfort foods may be eaten to positively relieve negative psychological effects or to increase positive feelings. Comfort food is usually related with emotional eating. Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of to satisfy hunger. Dr. Reham Safwat explains why people might need the use of comfort food to boost their mood. Chocolate and ice cream have been the number one comfort food in the world. Dr. Reham explains how potassium and glucose boost the mood. However, chocolate might have potassium and glucose but also high in calories. She advises that fruit consumption, like bananas, apples and dates can also boost the mood, since they are also rich in potassium.
